Downtown
The plan calls Downtown the central meeting place and service area, and says most homes sit within one kilometre of the downtown core. If the car is behind a shop or down a lane, tell us which street the truck should come in from.
Tiyata and the valley-bottom streets
Tiyata at Pemberton is a compact neighbourhood in the heart of the Village, between the CN Rail line, Highway 99 and Pemberton Creek. For a townhouse, give us the unit, the stall and where visitors may park.
Benchlands, Hillside, Sunstone, The Ridge and Pemberton Plateau
The plan puts the Benchlands along the Village’s western boundary and the Hillside lands on a south-facing slope near the Pemberton Plateau subdivision. The Zoning Bylaw names the Sunstone and The Ridge neighbourhoods. On a hill, tell us how steep the driveway is and which way the car faces.
Industrial Park, the Airport and the two gateways
With Downtown, these are the plan’s five business areas: the Portage Road Gateway, the Highway 99 Gateway, the Industrial Park and the Airport. For a vehicle in a yard, we need the gate hours and what is parked around it.
Outside the Village boundary
Village bylaws stop at the Village boundary. The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District lists Pemberton Meadows and the Pemberton Fringe in its Electoral Area C, and Mount Currie is the home community of the Lil’wat Nation. Each is a separate government, so the rules below do not apply there.
Private, strata and forest service roads
The Village’s roads page says the Village maintains many local roads, the province others, and some are Forest Service Roads. Private and strata roads are outside Village maintenance. If your car is on one, tell us what the surface is like and whether a gate or a strata rule affects access.
Pemberton Rules Worth Knowing Before a Dead Car Sits Too Long

A dead car on your own property
The Village’s Unsightly Premises By-law No. 476, 2002 makes it unlawful to keep a derelict or partly dismantled vehicle, or vehicle parts, on any property. The exception is behind a lawfully built screened fence or inside a closed building, out of sight of public places and the lot next door.
A written notice gives 14 days to comply. A second notice then sets a date, at least seven days on, to be heard by Council. After that the Village may enter and do the work at the expense of whoever did not comply, and a cost unpaid on December 31 goes onto the property taxes.
Zoning Bylaw No. 832, 2018 also bars keeping dismantled or wrecked motor vehicles on a lot in any zone, unless that bylaw allows it there. The Village’s Report an Issue page says its bylaw team tries education and voluntary compliance before formal enforcement.
A dead car on the street
Under the Parking and Traffic Control Bylaw No. 840, 2018, a vehicle may not be parked on any highway for longer than 72 hours. It may not be parked there at all without a valid licence plate or insurance, or in order to store, repair or wreck it. Abandoning a vehicle on a highway or in a public parking lot is banned.
A vehicle that is parked unlawfully, appears abandoned or lacks valid plates or current insurance may be removed and held until every removal and impound charge is paid by its owner. The bylaw names no storage yard.
Winter parking
The same bylaw sets winter parking restrictions from November 15 to March 31, around the clock. In that time no one may park on the side of a street where the addresses are even numbers, unless a sign allows it. A vehicle in the way of snow removal may be impounded.
ICBC’s steps when you sell a vehicle
ICBC’s steps for selling a used vehicle include confirming you’re the registered owner, signing the registration, filling out the Transfer/Tax Form (APV9T), and removing your licence plates.
To cancel your insurance, ICBC says to visit your Autoplan broker with your ID, your licence plates and your owner’s certificate. You can also transfer the insurance to another vehicle. These are ICBC’s general seller and cancellation steps; we handle the transfer paperwork with you at pickup.
